UNESCO HK Glocal Peace Centre partners with two dozen community and
private sector partners to accelerate debates on “Futures of Education”

Hong Kong, 3 Nov 2021 — UNESCO Hong Kong Association Glocal Peace Centre (“UNESCO HK GPC”) announces the speakers and partnering organizations for the event on November 10th, 2021, which is the second “Futures of Education” Forum (the “Forum”) to take place in Hong Kong.

The interdisciplinary Forum is the local community’s response to UNESCO’s “Futures of Education” global initiative, which aims to facilitate discussions and debates, leveraging collective intelligence of a wide range of stakeholders including students, parents, educators, business professionals, and the wider public, to reimagine how knowledge and learning can shape the future of humanity, and to future-proof our education systems for us to navigate and manage the complex and uncertain future.

This year, the theme is “The crossroads of education & future of work in the post-pandemic era”, where we explore topics such as:

  • Responsible education for sustainable growth
  • Work-life integration, upskilling/ reskilling and well-being
  • Public-private partnership for the shifting work landscape
  • Vocational professional education and training
  • Learning in the world of ‘new normal’

The above issues are at the heart of key stakeholders in the society, be it parents or company management. In order to better understand the various views in Hong Kong, UNESCO HK GPC commissioned a survey with more than 1,000 respondents. Respondents believe wellness and sustainability should be a core part of education in the future, and “Peace” should be a priority. The survey also finds that there is a substantial expectation gap in required skills versus what is currently provided by the education system. More insights from the survey will be shared at the Forum.

Honorary advisors and speakers from public and private sectors were invited to join the discussion at the Forum. Including Prof. Kai-ming Cheng, Emeritus Professor of the University of Hong Kong; Prof. You-Kwan Fan, BBS, JP, Adjunct Professor, Department of Economics, HKUST; Mr. Eugene Fong, Chairman, Committee on Home-School Co-operation, Hong Kong; Prof. Christina Hong, President, Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi); Mr. Tim Lui, SBS, JP,  Chairman of the Education Commission and Chairman of the Hong Kong Securities & Futures Commission; and Ms. S.
